EXPANSION UPDATE

The expansion is not yet completed. It is anticipated that we will not move into the expansion for a few months. Though the top two floors are complete, the construction company is waiting for approval from the City of Regina before they can complete the remainder of the building. Due to the increase in the student population and the lack of space at this time, we will have three elementary classrooms located in the gym and two high school classrooms will be using Thom Collegiate. The staff have been excellent in accommodating the space issues and we ask the parents to be patient and flexible as well.

OPEN HOUSE

Due to lack of space in the school we will not be hosting an open house. Many of our teachers will correspond with parents via email, SeeSaw or by phone. Once the expansion is open we will have a celebration which will provide the school an opportunity to showcase the expansion and meet with the teachers as well.

PRAYER

Due to the lack of space in the school, Grades 1, 2 & 3 students will not be praying during the school day. Grades 4 – 12 will be praying in their individual classrooms and Friday prayer will have grades 4 – 12 in a small portion of the gym. Once the expansion is complete, we will have all grade 1 – 12 students praying at the regular scheduled time in the school.

REMINDER TO PARENTS

When you come to the school during the day you are required to report to the office. Parents do not go directly to classrooms. Also, we do not take students out of their class to take a call from a parent unless it is an emergency. Please refrain from calling the school to talk to your children.

IN MOTION

A reminder that physical activity improves mental health, self-esteem and self-confidence. Please take the opportunity to keep your child/children physically active outside of school hours. While the weather is warmer, outside activities are a great way to get the 60- 90 minutes of the physical activity required per day.
We will continue physical education classes in the rental gym space in the building next to the school as well as taking students outside for their physical education classes.
Regina Huda School will continue to incorporate some of the In Motion practices!  We want your children to be healthy, happy people!

MICROWAVE-FREE LUNCHES

Due to the increase enrolment, particularly in elementary we will not be able to provide microwaves at school.  The electrical breakers in the school can no longer support the capacity. Also it is against Fire Code regulations to have microwaves in the hall and they will be removed as well.

You may send sandwiches, crunchy vegetables, fruit, or even hot food stored in a thermos container with your child at lunch time as an alternative to food that must be heated up.  The thermos containers will provide them with hot food and can be used every day. Please send healthy food choices, and not candy, chips or pop.  We are working towards being an environmentally-friendly, health-conscious school! We will also offer hot lunches one or two times month and you can order a special meal for your children at those times. Once the kitchen in the expansion is ready, we will also be looking at providing purchased lunches on a more frequent basis. We apologize for any inconvenience.

BUSSING

This year we will continue to bus students using First Student Canada. We currently have one bus, but if we have enough students to use two we will provide two buses.

If you are interested in arranging bus transportation for your child, please request and return the bussing form that your child has brought home.  The cost for full-time is $200.00 and part-time is $140.00.

UNIFORMS

All students at Regina Huda School must wear the appropriate school uniform every day.  Uniforms are available at the office.  High school boys must wear the green RHS shirt and black dress pants.  Elementary boys must wear an RHS shirt with the school logo, and black dress pants.  Girls in Gr. 6-8 must also wear a plain, white hijab.  Younger girls may also wear the white hijab if parents so choose.  We will also be selling hoodies. All Hoodies worn will have the Regina Huda School Logo.

No makeup or nail polish is allowed.  All students are expected to wear their uniform every day. Students who come to school not dressed in the proper uniform will have a note sent home. The second time your child needs to be reminded, the school will call home so that parents can be informed. A third time will result in a phone call home and parents will be required to either pick up their child or bring the appropriate clothing to school.

DROP OFF/PICK UP

We will once again be picking up and dropping off students on both sides of Sheppard Street. As many of our families know, the street is extremely busy and congested particularly after school. Please remember that safety of our students is a main priority and we need to be patient and considerate with each other and adhering to the traffic laws. The following are expectations when picking up children:

After School Pick-up:

  1. You should NOT DOUBLE PARK.
  2. You CAN PARK ACROSS THE STREET, CROSS THE ROAD, and pick up CHILDREN. You will go to the crosswalk on Sheppard and Reilley and Mrs G. will direct you across safely.
  3. Do not park cars behind the bus; you will not be able to pick up your child there.
  4. Do not CROSS THE ROAD FROM BETWEEN PARKED CARS!
  5. Do not park beside pylons.
  6. Students will be lined up on their designated spaces and when their vehicle arrives, parents may come to pick up the child/children or the students may walk to their car.

MEDIA RELEASE FORMS

You will also receive a form to sign which gives us permission to use your child’s picture in the yearbook, media, and on our school website.  Please read it carefully, sign and return it as soon as possible.

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION

Remember to update any changes to address or phone numbers at the office as soon as they change.  We need correct information on file in order to reach you in the event of any emergency at school.   It is also extremely important to tell us about any medical issues your child may have so we are aware and able to respond appropriately when needed.

We are excited to have your children at Regina Huda School this year and look forward to a successful year with all the students and families.
